My passion for natural medicine began in the garden of my adopted Doukhobor grandmother. Her hands were always in the dirt, and I can recall countless conversations with her about plants and the wisdom they held. She taught me to listen to the “quiet intelligence” of the land—a lesson that stayed with me through a long corporate career and eventually called me back to my true roots.

Returning to those roots felt like coming home. I went on to earn my degree in Natural Medicine to ground my grandmother’s teachings in formal study—a path that became deeply personal when I faced my own health challenges. Those moments reminded me how much strength we find when we slow down, trust our instincts, and let nature help us heal.

That is Feral & Formal.

The Feral is the part rooted in my grandmother’s garden—the plants, the old remedies, growing and harvesting what I can myself, getting my hands dirty, and trusting knowledge that has been passed down for generations.

​

The Formal comes from the other side of me—the years I spent in corporate roles, my education and research, and my belief that anything I make for someone else should be thoughtful, consistent, and made with care.

​

For years, I lived between these two worlds—one shaped by discipline and responsibility, the other rooted in instinct, nature, and ancestral wisdom. Eventually, I realized I didn’t have to choose between the two.

​

Feral & Formal Remedies is a reflection of that balance: honoring both the wisdom of the earth and the knowledge we gain through study, experience, and care.

​

The yarrow (Achillea millefolium) in my logo brings the story full circle. It was the very first plant my grandmother taught me about. She called it a “protector” with “a little magic in it,” and today it represents where this all began, what she passed down to me, and the path that eventually brought me back to natural medicine.

​

Choosing yarrow for my logo is my way of honoring her legacy and keeping a piece of her at the heart of Feral & Formal. What started in my grandmother’s garden has become something I never could have imagined all those years ago—and something I am incredibly proud to share with you.
